What is your style/approach to therapy?
I create a supportive and validating environment, while also challenging my clients to consider different perspectives.
I specialize in relationships, whether they are romantic, platonic, familial, or professional. I work with clients to establish boundaries, determine priorities, and feel more empowered to make decisions.
Some sessions may feel more free flowing and philosophical, exploring topics such as the ethics of non monogamy, the meaning of love, the feasibility of abolition, the dynamic nature of racial identity, etc.
Other sessions may feel more goal oriented. I provide concrete coping skills to manage life's challenges and help clients create sustainable changes to improve their lives.
I bring a trauma informed, strengths-based, and client-centered approach to my work with clients. I believe in your ability to grow, change, and heal even in incredibly difficult circumstances.
What excites you most about the evolving mental health landscape?
I am very excited about how much more accessible therapy is becoming through telehealth! I also am happy that the stigma around mental health is decreasing in so many communities.
Are there any recurring themes or issues you’ve noticed as you treat people in your area of specialization, and how has this insight guided your approach?
So many of my clients experience stress and trauma related to societal oppression and inequity. I've worked with clients experiencing trauma related to war, poverty, and racism. All of those traumas are related to structural issues that will not be solved in within the therapeutic space. But I create a space for clients to safely process these societal injustices and brainstorm ways to combat them.
