Education
University of Washington, Master of Education, Policy, 2013 — I use this degree often as well, and worked in Special Education administration. My internship was at the Pacific Science Center and I studied educator-scientist partnerships. I also did work on gifted education. I did all the coursework for another degree as a school psychologist but did not complete the degree (at Eastern) for personal reasons.
Claremont Graduate University, Master of Arts, Psychology, 1993 — My degree is in psychology and this was a research degree, but I use much of what I learned every day with clients. My Master's Thesis was on Multiple Intelligences. I was in the Ph.D program but after I advanced to candidacy, I made a choice based on family concerns to end before I finished my Ph.D
Work HistoryI began working as a lecturer at the college and graduate levels, but soon found my interests leading me toward gifted education and then special education. I worked at schools and in administration, and on a task force for gifted education at Seattle Public Schools, then as a board member with the Northwest Gifted Child Association. I found my interest in neurodiversity here and attempted a degree in School Psychology but found it was not a good fit for me, and wanted to do more counseling to help kids in schools and those homeschooled. Ultimately I started working in Drug Addiction and Counseling, but found my way to Mental Health Counseling and found I had been right at the age of 12, when I first wanted to be a therapist. Fortunately in all of that time the field moved toward evidence-based therapy techniques, which was a factor I found missing before and it spoke to my research background.
