What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
I work collaboratively with my clients to define goals and help them find the best way forward that helps them achieve better mental health while honoring their values. I have been told have a gentle way of being direct. It's really important to me that my clients have a strong sense of self-worth. I find even if that is not the reason they start therapy, as a part of my process this often comes up, which clients have told me is helpful.
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I worked for several years as a social worker with children in foster care and the families that foster and/or adopt them. In this work I found that our families of origin, past experiences, and relationships have a huge impact on how we show up for ourselves and others. Becoming a relational therapist has allowed me to put this experience to use in a way that helps me help others.
In what ways have your personal experiences influenced your work with your clients?
I have experienced a variety of challenges throughout the course of my life, which has given me a lot of compassion and empathy for others. Working through these challenges required courage, resilience, and support. Because I was able to process these past experiences, I have found joy and peace. I want this for each and every one of my clients, so I work hard to help them find within themselves the strength they need to heal.
