Get To Know Me
What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
My primary specialization is in working with folks who are part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. I have a soft spot for the trans, nonbinary and gender expansive community, in particular. I also love working with students (non-traditional, too!), religious and spiritual minorities, disabled people, neurodiverse folks, ethically non-monogamous individuals, and artists of all kinds.
As someone who doesn’t fit into society’s rigid expectations of gender, sexuality, spirituality, bodyminds, and relationship configurations, I strive to embrace and celebrate the individuality of each person sitting across from me. You are a whole and complex person worthy of personalized, excellent care, and that is what I aim to provide.

Professional Background
Licensure
Under Supervision: Dr. Therin Slayton, Associate Professional Clinical Counselor, 000 is practicing under the supervision of Aretha Steele (Illinois, Licensed Psychologist, 071010226) at Mindful Healing Counseling.
Please, note: A clinician listed as being “clinically supervised” is completing clinical hours toward their licensure. They have one or more fully licensed clinical supervisors that often have special training. They consult with their supervisor(s) on all of their cases.
Education
Adler University Chicago, Doctorate of Psychology, Clinical Psychology, 2023 — I graduated with a doctorate in clinical psychology from Adler University. I have trained at several community mental health sites across Chicago, and two college counseling centers. I am pre-licensed therapist under the supervision of Dr. Aretha Steele.
Work HistoryAlthough I have extensive training, I know I am not the expert on the ins and outs of what it’s like to be you. I strive to, above all else, truly listen and understand you. I want to help you move toward what is authentic for you while honoring your unique identities, social contexts, ways of being, and histories.
Compassion, creativity, exploration, experimentation and genuine, transparent conversations are the foundations of my approach to therapy. I focus on building honest, comfortable, and empowering relationships to bring about the changes you’d like to see. In all my work, I strive for down-to-earth interactions and center your empowerment, safety, sincerity, and values.
Looking for a specific technique or theoretical approach? I integrate several therapeutic approaches according to clients’ learning styles, needs, and preferences. That includes intersectional justice-focused frameworks, positive and strengths-based psychology, third-wave cognitive-behavioral therapies, mindfulness, self-compassion techniques, trauma recovery models, and attachment theory.
