What is your style/approach to therapy?
My approach is both structured and directive, empowering clients to make meaningful changes through practical strategies and focused action. Whether you're navigating a major life transition, managing overwhelming emotions, or seeking balance as a parent, I provide a supportive, solution-oriented environment where you can develop the tools needed to thrive.
I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients reframe negative thought patterns and engage in cognitive restructuring. Additionally, I focus on enhancing interpersonal effectiveness skills, helping clients improve their communication, set healthy boundaries, and build stronger, more fulfilling relationships.
Through a collaborative and goal-focused approach, I will help you break free from unhelpful thought patterns, build effective coping mechanisms, improve your relationships, and achieve a healthier, more fulfilling life.
What does a first session with you look like?
Once we have reviewed policies and procedures, our first session will focus on building rapport and gathering initial information. As we get to know each other, I will try to build an understanding of your path into therapy, what you hope to gain from our work together, and learn about you outside of the concerns bringing you into care. Together we will discuss your goals for treatment to establish a preliminary treatment plan. I will also share a bit more about my approach to working with clients and may begin "nerding out" on some of the science behind the modalities that I utilize and how they may apply to your treatment goals. I strive to balance collaboration, support, humor, direction and honest reflection/feedback to create an environment that is both comfortable and challenging so that you feel you are able to grow and work towards your goals at a pace that still feels good for you. We will wrap up our first session by checking in with your initial reactions and creating a plan for our ongoing work together. If we determine that we are not a good fit, I am happy to discuss this and provide referrals accordingly.
If there was one thing you wish people knew about the therapy experience who might be hesitant to try it, what would that be?
I want my clients to feel comfortable in our work together because I understand that reaching out for mental health support is challenging enough. I strive to create an open, non-judgmental environment for my clients and take an approach that is professional, informal, and relaxed. The tough work begins when clients feel comfortable dropping their guard and being their true self. The space I share with clients in sessions is one where clients can talk how they talk, say what they want to say, open up and just be authentic - no judgment here. Because I am directive in my approach, I may challenge clients at times to support exploration and growth, but always with care and compassion leading the way.
