Under Clinical Supervision
Valeriya Bauer, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, AMFT #139883 is practicing under the supervision of Sandra Powers (California, Licensed Psychologist, PSY28682) at Sandra Powers Psychology.
Please, note: A clinician listed as being “clinically supervised” is completing clinical hours toward their licensure. They have one or more fully licensed clinical supervisors that often have special training to become supervisors. They consult with their supervisor(s) on all of their cases, which means that, when working with them, you are getting the time and expertise of multiple therapists in your treatment.
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I have wanted to be a therapist since the time I was aware of what a career is. I have had a deep passion for understanding what experiences shape us into who we are (upbringing, life transitions, family dynamics, etc.) and how we can heal from those experiences that weren't necessarily positive or helpful while applying the strengths and benefits from what we have gone through. I find it very fulfilling to help others overcome trauma as I myself have found the answers in both my personal and professional journeys.
In what ways have your personal experiences influenced your work with your clients?
My personal experiences have guided me to be in the position where I am today. I thoroughly understand how trauma works due to my own exposure to multiple traumatic events. I knew there had to be a way to learn and grow from such experiences while breaking unhealthy generational cycles. I have learned the tools and techniques needed to thrive post-trauma and manage life stressors in an effective way. I enjoy teaching my clients how to do the same.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
My approach is empathetic and compassionate, balanced with evidence-based tools and techniques. In sessions, we will process traumatic events and life stressors. I also help clients learn tangible tools that they can apply outside of sessions.

Work History
I began my career working at an award-winning trauma clinic, where I learned about trauma and the ways that people are affected by various traumatic events. It was during this time that I instantly knew I was passionate about this field and specialty, as everyone is affected by a traumatic event at some point in their life. It is such an honor to walk alongside individuals learning to recover from challenging life events and thrive beyond such happenings. I also worked at a community setting helping families, parents, and mothers by providing relationship-based therapy that is attachment-focused. I enjoyed understanding how attachment works, beginning at birth and beyond. Attachment is at the center of our well-being and all our relationships. How we relate to the world and those around us is significantly shaped by our early childhood experiences. With this learning and my trauma background, I began to piece together a comprehensive understanding and approach to the treatment and healing of trauma.
