Get To Know Me
What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
You’ve carried this for a long time. Maybe you’ve learned how to function, stay busy, care for others, or push through — yet underneath it all, the same emotional pain, anxiety, self-doubt, relationship patterns, or inner tension keeps resurfacing. At some point, many people realize they don’t just want coping skills anymore — they want real healing and lasting change.
One of the most important things to know about working with me is that I don’t see you as broken. In IFS therapy, even the parts of you that feel reactive, stuck, overwhelmed, self-critical, avoidant, or emotionally exhausted make sense in the context of your life experiences. Rather than fighting against those parts, we work to understand them with compassion and curiosity so deeper healing can happen naturally.
My style is warm, grounded, collaborative, and depth-oriented. I strive to create a space where you can slow down, feel emotionally safe, and begin exploring your inner world without shame or pressure. I integrate approaches like IFS, EMDR, Brainspotting, and nervous system-focused work to help clients move beyond insight alone and into meaningful emotional transformation.
In our work together, you can expect:
• A calm, supportive environment where your pace is respected and your experiences are deeply honored
• Practical tools to help regulate your nervous system and navigate everyday life with more steadiness
• Deeper exploration of the emotional patterns, protective strategies, and wounds beneath the surface
• Compassionate support as you build greater clarity, confidence, connection, and self-leadership
I also offer therapy intensives and groups for clients who are looking for deeper, more focused support in addition to traditional therapy.
What are your biggest strengths as a therapist?
One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to create a calm, compassionate, and emotionally safe space where clients feel deeply seen without feeling judged or pushed. I help people slow down enough to understand the protective patterns, emotional wounds, and nervous system responses that are shaping their lives and relationships.
My approach is both gentle and structured. I work collaboratively with clients to help them regulate overwhelm, process trauma, shift longstanding patterns, and move beyond insight into meaningful emotional change. I believe healing happens when we can approach ourselves with curiosity and compassion rather than criticism or force.
Clients often tell me they feel safe, understood, and able to access parts of themselves they’ve struggled to reach before. I deeply respect each person’s pace and strive to help clients reconnect with a greater sense of clarity, confidence, self-trust, and inner steadiness.

Work HistoryMy name is Vanessa Leon-Gonzalez, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing therapy for individuals and couples through True North Counseling & Wellness. I specialize in trauma, attachment wounds, relationship patterns, and the deeper emotional struggles that can keep us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or reactive. I offer telehealth therapy in Florida, Vermont, and Idaho.
My path to becoming a therapist began with my own transformative experience in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy — a deep yet compassionate approach that helps us understand and heal the different “parts” within us. Through this work, I was able to process longstanding trauma, develop a more compassionate relationship with myself, and reconnect with a clearer sense of authenticity, direction, and inner steadiness — what I came to think of as my own “True North.”
Today, I help clients reconnect with that same grounded core within themselves. I bring the calm, compassionate, and curious presence of IFS into my work, creating a space where clients can safely explore painful experiences, protective patterns, and unmet emotional needs without shame or judgment.
My approach integrates IFS, EMDR, Brainspotting, and Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR), allowing us to tailor the work to your unique needs and nervous system. In addition to ongoing therapy, I also offer therapy intensives and therapeutic groups for clients seeking deeper, more focused support and transformation.
Whether we are working through trauma, relationship struggles, self-worth, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, or longstanding patterns that no longer serve you, my goal is to help you move toward greater clarity, connection, healing, and self-leadership.
