Work HistoryMy journey into mental health care started long before I became a psychiatric nurse practitioner. As an immigrant myself, I understand firsthand how challenging it can be to adjust to a new environment, navigate cultural differences, and manage the emotional toll that comes with starting over in an unfamiliar place. These experiences have shaped the way I approach mental health treatment—ensuring that every person I work with feels seen, heard, and understood. During my time as a peer counselor in college, I had the privilege of supporting fellow students who were struggling with stress, anxiety, and the pressures of academic life. I saw how difficult it could be to reach out for help, especially for those who felt they had to push through challenges alone. Through these conversations, I learned the value of a strong support system and the impact that guidance, understanding, and validation can have on someone’s well-being. As I advanced in my career, I gained deeper insight into how mental health and medication management intersect. While therapy and lifestyle changes are essential, I also recognize when medication can provide the stability someone needs to truly thrive. My approach is always patient-centered—I work closely with individuals to explore their concerns, address any hesitation about medications, and create a treatment plan that aligns with their values and goals. Today, as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, I combine my clinical knowledge with my personal experiences to help people feel empowered in their mental health journey. Whether I’m working with immigrants adjusting to a new life, students overwhelmed by academic pressure, or individuals navigating anxiety, depression, or trauma, I strive to provide compassionate, culturally informed care that meets them where they are.
