What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?

While my clinical work began in 2012 as a Rape Crisis Advocate in Riverside, CA, my passion and interest in therapy and mental health began much earlier. As a first-generation Latina-Arab American, and only daughter to hard working immigrant parents, I grew up with many privileges that my parents did not, and I also internalized many of the messages and expectations that came with this identity. I understand the pain and impact that culture, intergenerational trauma, and family dynamics can have on our mental health. Which is why I am passionate about de-stigmatizing mental health and exploring these topics with my clients.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I specialize in CBT and DBT.

What does a first session with you look like?

The first session is considered an intake or assessment session. I will ask questions to get to know you better by learning about your current and past symptoms, stressors you are experiencing, your family history and upbringing, your culture, support systems, and any other important areas of your life. At the end of this session, we will talk about goals you want to work on throughout therapy. After the initial session, we will work together to support you in feeling better. There are times I may be teaching you skills that you can practice to manage difficult emotions and experiences, and there are times when I create space for you to share anything that has come up since our last session. My approach is collaborative and tailored to meet each of my client’s needs. Some individuals prefer a more direct approach, some want small goals to work on in between sessions, some want to dive deep into past hurts or traumas, and some clients find healing through the conversations and insights they gain during our sessions. There is no “one size fits all” model for therapy and together we will explore what works and feels best for you.

Work History

Throughout my time as a therapist, I have worked in a variety of different settings including outpatient mental health clinics; schools; a domestic violence shelter; and a hospital program for individuals with moderate to severe mood disorders, such as depression and anxiety, and mothers experiencing perinatal mental health challenges. I learned so many valuable skills throughout the years that I was then able to bring into my private practice.
