Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
My path to becoming a therapist began long before I ever stepped into a classroom. I started my career in nursing, working closely with older adults and their families. During that time, I learned that healing is about so much more than medical care — it’s about listening, connecting, and helping people find meaning, hope, and comfort even in the most difficult circumstances. I often found myself drawn to the emotional side of care — supporting people as they processed loss, change, and the challenges of aging. Those experiences sparked a deep curiosity about the human spirit and a desire to understand people on a deeper, more emotional level.
As I moved into social work, that curiosity grew into purpose. I began working with children, families, and individuals from all walks of life — people facing homelessness, trauma, cultural barriers, and mental health struggles. Each person I met reminded me that everyone has a story, and that empathy, respect, and connection can be powerful tools for healing.
Becoming a therapist felt like a natural extension of my lifelong passion for helping others. I chose this profession because I believe in people’s ability to grow and transform when they feel seen, heard, and supported. My goal is to help clients reconnect with their own strength, discover their sense of self-worth, and find peace in who they are.
What inspired me to become a therapist was a patient I cared for early in my career as a nurse assistant. One day, they told me that I had “the passion of a strong, independent woman and the big heart of a human who loves and accepts others for who they are.” Those words stayed with me. They made me realize how deeply I value connection, compassion, and acceptance — and how powerful it can be to simply see and support someone in their most vulnerable moments.
That experience planted a seed that grew into my desire to pursue social work and counseling. I wanted to continue helping people in a way that went beyond physical care — to support their emotional healing, personal growth, and self-acceptance. Becoming a therapist has allowed me to live out that calling: to create a space where others feel heard, understood, and empowered to embrace their own strength and worth.
In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
My personality plays a big role in how I connect with and support my clients. I bring a sense of directness and honesty to my work — I believe in being real, transparent, and compassionate while helping clients face the challenges in front of them. My approach is supportive, but also gently guiding, helping clients take meaningful steps toward change rather than staying stuck in what feels comfortable or familiar.
I also bring a strong will to live, to fight, and to never give up, qualities that have shaped both my personal and professional life. I know what it means to struggle and to keep going, and I carry that same energy into my work with clients. I strive to instill hope and resilience — reminding people that even in the most difficult times, growth and healing are possible.
What’s the most profound, insightful, or interesting thing you’ve learned as a mental health professional?
The most profound truth I’ve discovered in this work is that the barriers people face are rarely built from the outside world — they’re built from within. The heaviest walls are often made of doubt, shame, and a quiet belief that one is not enough. So many of the struggles I witness come from wounds of low self-worth and forgotten self-belief, the kind that quietly shape how a person sees themselves and what they think they deserve.
But I’ve also learned that those same walls can be softened and, eventually, broken down. With compassion, patience, and courage, people begin to see the light within themselves that was never truly gone — only hidden. Watching someone rediscover their strength, reclaim their voice, and learn to love themselves again is one of the most moving experiences I know. It reminds me that healing isn’t about becoming someone new; it’s about remembering who you’ve always been.

Education
University of Wyoming, Master of Social Work, 2015 — My passion for social work stems from its unique ability to blend clinical counseling with a deep understanding of the social and environmental factors that shape people’s mental health. Through the Master of Social Work (MSW) program with a counseling focus, I’ve come to appreciate how social work equips practitioners like me to not only address emotional and relational challenges but also to consider the broader systems that influence a person’s well-being.
I approach therapy from a holistic and strengths-based perspective, recognizing that mental health doesn’t exist in isolation — it’s deeply connected to relationships, community, culture, and access to support. In working with individuals and couples, I aim to create a space where clients can explore challenges such as communication struggles, trauma, stress, or life transitions, while also uncovering their inherent capacity for growth and resilience.
What draws me most to this field is the balance between clinical skill and social justice — the belief that healing happens not just within individuals, but also through addressing the systems that affect them. As a social work–trained therapist, I strive to help people build healthier relationships and more empowered lives, contributing to change that is both personal and lasting.
Work HistoryMy professional journey began in the nursing field, where I worked for many years as a nurse assistant caring for older adults. This experience gave me a deep understanding of compassion, patience, and the emotional side of healing. Working closely with the geriatric population and their families, I learned how to support people not only with their medical needs but also with their feelings, fears, and hopes. I helped individuals cope with change, find moments of joy, and build a sense of acceptance and purpose in their daily lives.
As I transitioned into social work, I expanded my experience to working with children and families, including those in the foster care system. I supported children navigating emotional challenges and worked with families to strengthen relationships and build stability. From there, I began working with individuals in community-based programs who faced homelessness, financial hardship, and mental health difficulties. This work helped me develop expertise in crisis intervention, resource connection, and trauma-informed care.
In my community health work, I focused on serving Spanish-speaking and undocumented individuals who often faced barriers to accessing mental health care. I provided culturally sensitive support, education, and advocacy to help them understand the importance of emotional well-being and to reduce stigma around mental health. These experiences deepened my commitment to providing inclusive, empowering, and culturally responsive therapy.
Now, in my private practice, I bring together all these experiences to support individuals and couples who are seeking greater self-understanding, emotional balance, and healthier relationships. My focus is on helping clients build self-awareness, strengthen coping skills, and reconnect with their sense of hope and personal power.
