What does a first session with you look like?
First sessions with me, I like to think, are a fun mix between a very casual get to know each other, with the necessary formal intake type questions. I intentionally work to make this kind of mix so we can both make a strong first step towards building strong rapport as well as to be sure I am providing you the best clinical assessments and care within my know-how. There is strong research to show that having good rapport is the highest indicator of clinical success with your therapist, so my first goal for our work is always to make sure that you feel comfortable to be your authentic self within our shared space.
In what ways have your personal experiences influenced your work with your clients?
I was raised in a Protestant church, and it was taught very heavily on what Jesus taught his followers, of loving others unconditionally. I do not protestalize in my practice as my beliefs are not relevant in the session, what's relevant is you and your beliefs/needs. How it influences my work though is that it anchors me in my ethics code that absolutely everyone deserves to be treated with respect and kindness, no matter your background or experiences.
How do you determine therapy goals with clients? What does that process look like?
In our first sessions my clients and I explore what concerns are bringing them to therapy and how these concerns have been impacting their life. Goals are then collaboratively worked on through clients personal request as well as clinical assessment. Regardless of my opinions no goal is set that the client does not agree to.

Work History
I have been working in the mental health industry for just over 10 years at this point, ranging from in locations from psychiatric hospitals, to day programs, community clinics and even private case management. I have worked with both ends of the socio-economic spectrum; and have experience treating an exceptionally wide variety of obstacles/diagnoses. My strongest basis has been in addiction work, existential work, and mood dysregulation. Every obstacle usually entails it's "standard" approach to treatment, regardless of that I approach every clients situation in a person centered approach treating each of their needs in the unique way that works for them.
