If you could pick one movie or book that influenced your approach to therapy, what would it be and why?

I would have to say Good Will Hunting. Robyn Williams as Matt Damons therapist was a soft hearted , kind and compassinate therapist. He let Matts character begin where he was at. As Matt began to trust Robyn he appeared to let his gaurd down and listen Robyn. Humor was helpful in their therapeutic relationship as Mat neede to feel comfortable and find some common gorund with Robyn. Matt seemed to have an abusive past which he had been a weight causing depression and anger. When Robyn listened, acknowledged and validated Matt he seemed able to allow himself some happiness and went off to pursue his dreams. I feel my approach is similar. Most important in therapy is the relationship between client and therapist. Without this we dont trust which can delay progress.
