What is your style/approach to therapy?

I can be described as warm, humorous, open-minded, curious, and practical. I see my role as providing guidance to help people access their innate wisdom, and to teach lifelong practical skills. No one needs to be fixed. We are all trying our best to get our needs met. I believe people have the right to choose their own path and therefore I provide an environment where people feel its safe to be authentic.

What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?

I struggled both in my childhood and adolescence with depression and anxiety. I was bullied throughout my school years, and sought my own therapy in college. It was transformative. My therapist provided a space where I could completely be myself. I knew then that I wanted to be able to give to others what she gave to me.

What does a first session with you look like?

Its important to me to gain a complete understanding of a person's problems and context; therefore, I do ask many questions about most aspects of their life. I want to hear about the path that led to a person seeking therapy, including what strengths each person already has. I review any important paperwork, make sure each client can ask any questions, and talk about a treatment plan going forward. I usually ask clients to begin some type of awareness practice after the first session.
