What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?

Long story short, I was your typical cartoon of a boy with attention hyperactivity issues, and ended up seeing a therapist myself to address impulsivity/behavior issues in school. I have seen people some well intended and others not, make more problems than solutions. I have also benefited from many positive examples in my life, so that I can stand where I am today. When my family pressured me to get an engineering degree for a good job, I held firm and continued with my graduate studies in clinical psychology. I always thought the inner world was more interesting that the external, and I thoroughly enjoy helping others with my knowledge and passion for psychology.

Work History

Hi, I’m John Campbell, MA, LPC/MHSP, a licensed professional counselor in Texas and Tennessee with a passion for helping individuals, children, and families heal, grow, and thrive. I cut my teeth working for UTMB-Correctional Managed Care within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. My practice specializes in evidence-based therapy to high risk and challenging populations. Blending compassion with clinical excellence to support clients through a number of behavioral challenges. From adjustments to life transitions, anxiety, depression, personality diagnoses, trauma, or psychosis. I believe in meeting you where you are in your healing and guiding you forward patiently with a personalized, strength-based approach. My practice incorporates Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT). I also offer Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Children (DBT-C)—a powerful tool for helping young clients manage emotions and improve behavior in a supportive, developmentally appropriate way.
