In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?

I have been told that my personality is sincere, fun and compassionate. My primary objective is to create a safe space for my clients where they can feel secure about opening up with what they are struggling with. I have a positive energy that helps bring hard discussions into a therapy session where we can be serious, but also laugh at the same time.

In what ways have your personal experiences influenced your work with your clients?

My personal experiences are the #1 reason I chose to become a therapist. My early childhood hardships drove me to become even more passionate about the spiritual gift I have of mercy and empathy. I later found myself divorced with 3 daughters and I felt very helpless and sad. I gained so much strength going back to school at 45 years old and obtaining my Master's degree. I never knew the love I had for teenagers until I had to complete my internship at the juvenile detention center in Miami. Not only do I love complicated teenagers, but I love people in general and helping Individuals get back on the right path God created for them.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

My approach to counseling is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Reality based counseling. CBT helps recognize how your thoughts impact your feelings, behaviors, and then how your showing up in your life. What thoughts or ideas need to change? Identifying negative thoughts, and limiting beliefs, so in turn, you are able to manage stress in your life.

Work History

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and I have 15 years of experience working with individuals and families as well as extensively working with adolescents. I have helped people with a wide range of concerns including posttraumatic stress disorder, childhood trauma’s, depression, anxiety, parenting issues, relationship and family issues, stage of life challenges, the pain of recovering after a divorce, decision-making, and problem-solving. Other related experience includes working with incarcerated youth who come from the hard streets of Miami. I have also helped many women and men by guiding them through the pain of divorce. My counseling style is empathetic and interactive and is grounded in wellness of the whole person, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and mentally. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Reality based therapy are my primary approach as I have worked with individuals, groups, and families. While helping people develop tools and skills to empower them and help them achieve their goals, I support people through their process and share their journey. Empathy, compassion, trust, and respect are most important to me and my role as a therapist. All human beings have emotions. Emotions like sadness, anger, confusion, fear, guilt. Some emotions are hard to understand sometimes when we are going through different seasons of our life. Taking the first step and realizing you may need to talk to a therapist, to guide you through these challenging times, is a positive choice in the right direction. I am here to provide a safe, and supportive place for you to become healthier and more aware of how to handle your current issues.
